Review: MacPadd
What kind of mouse pad are you using at the moment? It's probably nothing too out of the ordinary, as all mouse pads are generally the same. Try something new for a change, the MacPadd.
Probably not too obvious from looking at the included image, the MacPadd is entirely made out of aluminum, unlike your traditional mouse pad. At first glance I was very intrigued by this product. It was interesting to finally use something different. The MacPadd's footprint is fairly wide, yet pretty solid. It's what you would expect out of a plate of metal. The surface is antibacterial, allowing for an easy clean when needed. Located on the bottom is a very tight rubber grip, so you won't have to worry about this mouse pad moving anywhere.
The overall design of the MacPadd is very simple, thus replicating the looks of an Apple product. It fits in very nicely with Apple's latest aluminum products, such as the new iMac and keyboard. This is definitely one of the nicest looking mouse pads available. Simplicity always gets my vote. One thing I did not like was the sharp edges. While not a big concern, I would sometimes scrape my wrist against the edge. A thin rubber border could help prevent this in a future product release.
Because the MacPadd is metal, using my Mighty Mouse on it is quite noisy. Movement, however, is very smooth and feels nice. Results may vary depending on what mouse you choose to use. Another thing worth noting is the overall wideness (about 9 inches) of the MacPadd. It is definitely wider than your average mouse pad, so take that into consideration if you work within a small workspace.
The MacPadd sells for $24.99. While I think that may seem a bit pricey for a mouse pad, the quality of the product reflects it pretty well. If you are looking for a different type of product and something that looks nice with your Apple products, I do recommend checking it out. A "Pro" version also sells for $31.99, which is meant for users (graphic designers, CAD professionals, etc.) looking for an even larger mouse pad.

Looks cool, but I gotta wonder why anyone would spend even $1 on a mouse pad. Optical mice work on virtually any surface.
Your right, that does seem a little pricey and I'm not so sure I could put up with it being noisy and having sharp edges. On the plus side, at least it looks pretty good and is a bit different from the average mouse pad.
Thanks for the review. Just ordered the MacPadd Pro for the MBP I bought last week. I'm hoping the Mighty Mouse doesn't make TOO much noise. Is it excessive? or no?
I'm using my official Apple mousepad from the Cupertino campus! :-p
When it is not used for a while does it get cold when you first use it like say in the morning?
ehh i use the laser mouse and it can work on just about every surface
Good article, thank you
