Palm Pre gets a date and price
Sprint has finally set a date and price on the Palm Pre. Today they announced the "webOS" based phone will begin selling on June 6th at $199, including a mail-in rebate. What does this mean for the iPhone? I think it's pretty safe to say that the Pre is easily the iPhone's most serious competitor. Below is a nice overview of what the Pre is about:
Also worth mentioning is the importance of the Pre's fate. If this product does not succeed, this could mean the end of Palm as we know it. The company has already seen its fair share of trouble. This product launch could be a new start for Palm.
So what are you your thoughts on the Pre? Are you interested in buying one? What do you think this means for Palm and its future?

I agree. The Pre is easily the iPhone's biggest competitor. If I were Palm however, I would price the Pre at $99 for several reasons. The $99 price point seems to be the magic number for mass adoption, And, if I were comparing the Pre and the iPhone, that price point may be enough to compel my decision.
Also, I would go as far as to say that the Pre is not only Palm's last hope, but also Sprints. Sprint has needed a Signature phone for years. This phone will either help Sprint gain market they desperately need, or will prove that they are falling behind Verizon and AT&T.
Palm can't price the Pre at $99. Both Spring and Palm are losing enough money as it is. This will help Sprint gain market share. One good review from Engadget and Gizmodo will send the stock prices of both companies soaring.
I'd seriously consider getting a Pre had it been on a better network like Verizon. Sprint is plagued with problems in my area (but so is AT&T). Apple will definitely be king of the hill come 2010, if it puts out a 4g iphone on Verizon.
The Palm Pre looks very nice and seems to work smoothly but the iPhone is so well known, so embedded into the phone industry. Most people in the world have heard of the iPhone, I'' guessing it wouldn't be difficult to find someone who's never heard of the Palm Pre. I just think the iPhone has been such a success that it'd take something enormous to "dethrone" apple's iPhone.
Sorry if there were any errors here, I'm writing this from my iPod Touch ,so, yeah.
